Understanding Junior Associate Membership

To participate in the CYC High School Sailing Program, every sailor who is not the child of a current member must have a Junior Associate Sailing membership (JASM). JASM applies to all non-member sailors between 7-18 years old.

JASM does not automatically renew and all Junior Associate Sailing Members must reapply each calendar year in accordance with the club bylaws. The JASM is $50 and will be reflected in your first month's statement from CYC. No fee is charged to complete the JASM application.

All JASM sailors should verify they are in good standing prior to the High School Sailing season. You may need to renew to participate in 2024. Use your previous JASM number during the renew process. If you are applying for the first time, use JAM99 as a temporary number while waiting for membership approval.

Inaugural Azalea Bowl Welcomes HS & College Sailors

Jacksonville University and Hoggard/Viking Sailing Win in College and High School Divisions

The Azalea Bowl Regatta welcomes more than 120 sailors from 12 high schools and 16 colleges. Sailors traveled from CA, FL, GA, NC, SC, TN, VA and the US Virgin Islands to participate.

High school sailing has two primary seasons — spring and fall. Practices are after school, and teams participate in regattas as part of the North division of the South Atlantic Interscholastic Sailing Association.

Sailors also participate in winter practices and fun events. High school sailors can continue sailing through the CYC 420 sessions and race teams during the summer. The Collegiate 420 is a two-person sailboat used in high school and college regattas.

The program at CYC focuses on skills such as teamwork, division of labor, sail trim, rig set-up, and strategy and tactics that can be transferred to other sailboats that sailors may sail in the future.

High school sailing:

  • Provides an inclusive team environment
  • Builds teamwork and fosters friendships
  • Requires physical fitness and critical thinking
  • Develops lifelong skills and a love for sailing
