District Championships - Mallory Qualifier
Saturday, April 29, 2023:
A light start to the SAISA Mallory Qualifier with winds 3-7 knots out on the SW. Race Committee start the first race of the day just before 1100 Hours. Mid afternoon the breeze was a steady 8-15 knots out of the South. An impressive performance from our volunteers and race committee getting off 10 race in both divisions just before the sunset. Great job to all teams for the first day of the regatta.
Sunday, April 30, 2023:
An uneasy start to day 2 of the regatta with predicted high winds and possible storms coming through around noon. Race Committee went out on time at 9am to get race 11A off by 9:30am. Wind started at 14-17 knots from the SW. 2 races were completed in A Division when lighting in the area forced organizers to keep all sailors and boats ashore until it passed. Racing was resumed at 11:30am with B Division in 6-12 knots out of the W. During race 14A on the last downwind, the wind increased to 23 knots and gusting over 30 knots. Sailors and boats were kept ashore due to the strong winds. The wind did not decrease and a system of rain and lightning was headed towards the venue, so at 3:00pm raced was called for the day. A HUGE thank you to all the Race Committee and volunteers for a fantastic job of course setting and regatta management. Congratulations to the top 3 teams for qualifying to National Championships later this year. Rounding out the top 3 was Lucy Beckham in 3rd, Ransom Everglades in 2nd and the overall win going to Gulliver Preparatory with 106 points. Thank you all and hope to see you again at CYC1853 in Wrightsville Beach, NC.
