Opti Green Coach is Adam Nelson
Growing up on Puget Sound in Tacoma, WA, I learned to sail in El Toro dinghies and spent many weekends observing as "rail meat" sailing PHRF races as part of my father's crew. My passion for coaching youth exploded when I began serving as an instructor in Tacoma Yacht Club's Junior Sailing Program. I had six incredible seasons at TYC, coaching both learn-to-sail and race team. Moving to New Zealand for a year and coaching at Murrays Bay Sailing Club only deepened my love for this sport, and while there I coached an Opti fleet, as well as adult learn-to-sail on J-22's at another club. Having spent countless hours on the water in craft ranging from prams and Lasers to offshore keelers, I am happiest under sail and would say goodbye to pavement forever if given the chance! I look forward to having a great time with the sailors while we work hard!
Opti Advanced Coach is Elizabeth Chambers
Growing up on Lake Norman in Mooresville, NC, I competed in many local SAYRA regattas in optis, lasers, and 420s. After a successful high school sailing career as a female skipper, I attended College of Charleston where I became a two time Academic All-American. While in college, I competed in CORA regattas on multiple types of boats and the US Women's Match Racing Championship. Now in graduate school in Miami, FL, I have begun competing in Lightnings and Etchells; with my most recent accomplishment of winning the 2016 Lightning Atlantic Coast Championships at CYC as a part of the Lightning Boat Grant Team. My coaching experience consists of 6 years as the racing coach during summer programs and most recently an optimist racing coach at Coral Reef Yacht Club year-round. I can't wait to enhance these opti sailors racing skills and prepare for an awesome weekend of racing!
Laser Advanced Coach is Will Glenn
Will is a veteran Laser Sailor competitor of the 1996 and 2000 Olympic Trials. Some highlights include 2d Gulf Coasts, 2d 1994 Midwinters, 4th 1994 US Nationals, 2d 1994 North American Grand Prix, 9th 1993 Eurolymp Christmas Race. Will finally peaked when he became 3 for 3, in children who love sailing. During the past 15 years he drops into a major regatta here and there to wakeup. Now he is Varsity Head Coach at Rollins College.
During the clinic, Will hopes to work on boat speed; individual boat handling improvements; current tactics; and as much downwind as possible.
