Fall CYC Adult/Family Sailing
CYC’s Adult Sailing Program is designed for adults who have little or no knowledge about sailing to more experienced sailors looking to get more time on the water. This program will focus on teaching students everything that they will need to know to go sailing on their own, buy their own boat, race more competitively in a different boat or crew on one of our member’s racing sailboats.
Rigging, sail theory, crew positions, knot tying, and teamwork are just some of the topics covered in this course. The courses combine classroom instruction with on-the-water practice. All classes are designed to build skills and confidence in a safe and encouraging environment.
They are also chance to meet new friends, make sailing connections, and learn skills that will keep you safe and comfortable on a boat for the rest of your life.
Adult Learn to Sail
The course is held in Flying Scott boats, and students in this course will experience both skippering and crewing in the double/triple handed (read: two to three person) boats, learning through both classroom lecture and on the-water sailing drills. The course is useful to both brand new sailors, as well as big boat sailors looking to broaden their sailing experience and knowledge in a ‘tippy-ish’ boat.
In the Beginner Class, students will learn rigging and basic boat handling (maneuvering, sail trim and recovery), simple course sailing, seamanship and rules of the road. The course is designed as a way for new sailors to learn at a comfortable pace with expert instruction in a team-oriented environment. Sailors will be paired with other students in our boats. By the end of the session, all students shouldl be able to rig (set up), launch, sail get away from the dock, sail anywhere on the lake, retrieve and derig their boats successfully.
